Sustenance Determined by Allah
It's Not Just About Effort
Working hard, but how come the results are the same?
Have you ever felt that you've worked hard, but the sustenance that comes feels far from expectations?
Or maybe, seeing other people who seem to be taking it easy, but their sustenance is really smooth?
It makes you wonder: "How come?"
In reality, there are people who work hard every day, but their business goes bankrupt.
Meanwhile, there are also those who work mediocre jobs, but their fortune flows fast.
This phenomenon clearly makes us think, does sustenance actually depend entirely on effort, or are there other bigger factors?
Sustenance is not entirely dependent on effort
In the Qur'an, Allah has explained through Surah Az-Zariyat:
"And in the heavens is your sustenance and what is promised to you" (QS. Az-Zariyat: 22)
This verse is simple, but deep in meaning.
The message is clear: sustenance is determined by Allah, not purely the result of our efforts.
Think about it, if sustenance is 100% dependent on effort, then anyone who works hard must be rich, right?
But the fact is, life doesn't work that way.
There are people who work hard, but their sustenance is mediocre.
There are also those who have small businesses, but their sustenance is abundant.
God is the one who manages the spaciousness or narrowness of one's sustenance.
Effort is important, but not the only determining factor.
Effort is a form of endeavor, the result is determined by Allah.
You might be thinking, "Well then, why put in the effort if the result is already determined by Allah?"
Well, effort is still mandatory! Why?
Because effort is our form of worship to Allah.
We show that we are willing to struggle and not just sit idly by.
But remember, effort cannot be used as a definite measure of results.
There are people whose efforts are extraordinary, but they are still tested with difficulties.
There are also those who seem mediocre, but their sustenance continues to grow.
This shows that sustenance is part of Allah's destiny which is full of wisdom.
Sustenance is Broad, Not Just About Money
Sometimes we focus too much on measuring sustenance in material terms.
In fact, sustenance is very broad.
For example, good health, a harmonious family, useful knowledge, or even peace of mind, are all also part of sustenance.
When we understand this, our hearts become calmer.
We keep trying, but we are not obsessed with pursuing material results alone.
Blessed sustenance is far more valuable than abundant sustenance that does not bring goodness to life.
So, what should we do?
It's simple: keep trying and praying.
Effort is a form of our endeavor, and prayer is a form of surrender to Allah.
When we have done both, leave the results to Allah, because He knows best what is best for us.
And don't forget, be grateful for every sustenance that Allah has given.
Sometimes, we focus too much on what we haven't got, until we forget to be grateful for what we already have.
